If you’re feeling unproductive at work, maybe you should consider standing up. Stand-up desks have been gaining popularity in recent years. The newest trend is something called a “stand-capable” desk. That’s a desk that can be converted to standing or sitting positions. And a new study reported in The Wall Street Journal shows that these desks often increase productivity.
Researchers at Texas A&M found that workers are generally more comfortable when given the option to stand at times. The study also found that workers who could stand were 46% more productive than workers with traditional seated desks.
The researchers attributed much of the productivity gains to the greater physical comfort reported by the workers at the higher desks. And even though the workers weren’t required to stand, they chose to do so—for almost two extra hours a day.
