In September, Kansas’s unemployment dropped slightly and Colorado’s inched up slightly.
As The Topeka Capital-Journal reports, the jobless rate in Kansas dropped to 3.8 percent in September.
According to the Kansas Department of Labor and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was about a tenth higher in August.
The state had 1.43 million people with a job in September, an improvement of 4,100 from the previous month. More than 41,000 Kansans made unemployment claims last month.
Meanwhile, as The Denver Post reports, Colorado’s unemployment rate moved the opposite direction – increasing from 2.4 percent in August to 2.5 percent in September – but it remains one of the lowest employment rates in the country, tied for second place with Hawaii.
Ryan Gedney, senior economist for the state, said for the first time since 1994 the state's labor force surpasses 3 million people.
