A List of the Most and Least Efficient States

Creative Commons

The website wallethub.com has published a list of America’s most and least energy efficient states. The site measured the efficiency of car- and home-energy consumption in the continental US. Researchers took into account both home and car efficiency.

Of states in the High Plains region, Colorado fared the best, landing at number seven. None of the other High Plains states was in the top half of the list. Kansas is listed at number 27, while Nebraska was 34th and Oklahoma 37th on the list. Texas, America’s largest energy producer, ranks third from the bottom in efficiency.

New York was found to be the most efficient state, and South Carolina the least efficient.

Nine of the bottom ten states were in the South, while none of the ten most efficient states were Southern. New England, the Southwest and the Upper Midwest are the most efficient areas of the country.
