The graduation rate for the Class of 2011 was one of the best in the country, and set a new Texas record- until the Class of 2012. The Amarillo Globe-News reported 87.7% graduated on time in 2012, which is 1.8 points higher than 2011. This is the fifth consecutive year the rate has increased.
Commissioner of Education, Michael Williams said, “All those working in Texas education should be proud of our strong numbers and the strides we continue to make as a state.”
Here’s how things shaped up in the Panhandle:
- In Amarillo Independent School District, the graduation rate for the Class of 2012 Grade 9 cohort was 87.1, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from the district’s Class of 2011.
- The Class of 2012 in Bushland ISD graduated at 97.7 percent, a 3 percent increase from the Class of 2011.
- In Canyon ISD, the graduation rate for the Class of 2012 was 94.4 percent, a 2 percent decrease from the Class of 2011.
- The Class of 2012 in River Road ISD graduated at 96.1 percent, a decrease of 0.8 from the Class of 2011.
- Highland Park ISD saw an increase of 3.9 percent with the Class of 2012 graduation rate at 97.8 percent.
