Voters in Texas will be voting on multimillion-dollar bonds for more than 80 school districts and municipalities tomorrow. Comptroller Susan Combs asks Texas voters to take a close look at what they’re being asked to authorize according to the Amarillo Globe-News.
“Taxpayers will vote on $6.7 billion in bond proposals,” Combs said in a news release.
Combs encourages votes to visit the Comptroller’s “Tell the Truth Texas” website. The website explains the local bond election process and the proposals on tomorrow’s May 10 ballot.
In House District 87, only Sanford-Fritch with an enrollment of 865, has a bond proposal.
Rep. Four Price, R-Amarillo, says one key consideration is how much debt the entity issuing the bond proposal already has. The bond amount for Sanford-Fritch is $8 million to pay for school renovations and buses. The district’s current debt is $410,863.
“Everyone has to sit down and take notice, but sometimes it gets less attention that it deserves,” Price said in reference to the usually low voter turnout in bond elections.
