Election Day in the Lone Star State: What to Watch For

Wikimedia Commons

There’s a lot more happening on Lone Star ballots today besides Trump vs. Clinton. Here are some things to watch for tonight in Texas, courtesy The Dallas Morning News.

In the 23rd Congressional District, Democrat Pete Gallego lost his seat to Republican Will Hurd two years ago. This year, Gallego is running to regain his seat, and the race looks be a squeaker. But Gallego has a good chance, as historically more Democrats vote in presidential years than in off years.

Another thing to keep an eye on: How many House seats will Democrats gain?

And finally, it will be interesting to see where the minority vote count falls. A major increase in minority voting will be a good sign for Democrats. But early voting analysis in Texas shows no increase in the minority vote. Democratic activists had been hoping for a Hispanic tidal wave to reject Trump’s candidacy.
