Two Bright Stars In The Texas Democratic Universe Are On A Collision Course

The two brightest stars in the Texas Democratic Party firmament appear to be on a collision course.

As POLITICO reports, for many years, Texas Democrats have dreamed of a resurgence onto the national stage—and the path to that national stage has long run through San Antonio, home to twin brothers Julian and Joaquin Castro.

Often seen as the state’s most energetic up-and-comers, Joaquin, the third-term congressman, and Julián, San Antonio’s former mayor, have been discussed in recent years as possible future White House occupants.

In fact, Julian is expected to announce his candidacy for the presidency next month.

But now, another star has risen in the West—in El Paso, to be exact—in the person of Beto O’Rourke, now being discussed as a presidential frontrunner.

The presence of both O’Rourke and Julian Castro on the national stage could prove a boon to Lone Star leftists. But it may also test the loyalties of a party that has wandered in the desert for a long time, waiting for a star to appear.
