In all but six states, women outnumber men. Yet in many areas of the U.S., women are being treated poorly. There are still 19 states that have refused to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, and women make up the majority of poor, uninsured adults in those states.
The personal finance website Wallethub has published a list of 2017’s “Best and Worst States for Women.”
Among HPPR states, Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas all cracked the top 20, landing at numbers 14, 15, and 19, respectively. Texas and Oklahoma didn’t fare as well, falling near the bottom, at numbers 42 and 43.
Minnesota and Vermont were found to be the best states in America for women. The worst? Louisiana and Mississippi.
To come up with the data, Wallethub studied 19 key indicators, including median earnings for female workers, availability of preventive care for women, and female homicide rate.
