Oklahoma School Districts Receive $2M Grant For STEM Studies

Misawa AFB

Oklahoma’s school districts got an early Christmas present this week, as it was announced that districts statewide would receive a $2 million grant.

As KOKH reports, the donation is being provided by the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board. The grant will go toward educating Oklahoma students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, better known as the STEM subjects.

Mindy Stitt, the Executive Director of the Energy Resources Board, noted that the OERB had heard from teachers “about how much supplies are needed.”

Stitt said the grant will allow the OERB to further their mission “to provide educational resources to Oklahoma schools.”

The Oklahoma Energy Resources Board is an outreach arm of the state’s oil and gas industry.

Oklahoma’s education funding situation has been dire for years, and Gov. Mary Fallin recently called another special session to address the state’s budget gap.
