Garden City Middle School Receives Second Threat Of Violence In Less Than A Week

***UPDATE: The Garden City Police Department arrested a 15-year old female student on an allegation of criminal threat in connection to the latest threat.***

A 15-year-old female was arrested early Tuesday evening on an allegation of criminal threat in connection to the second threat of violence aimed at Horace Good Middle School in less than a week. 

According to a press release from the Garden City Police Department, at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, police were made aware of the threat through an anonymous social media app. Police said the message suggested the threat would be carried out on Tuesday. 

HGMS Middle School Principal Brad Springston wrote a letterposted on Garden City USD 457’s Facebook page Monday evening that said administrators believe the school is safe and that school would be in session Tuesday. Springston said it was up to parents whether to keep their children home from school Tuesday or not.

The GCPD and the school district encouraged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s social media accounts and report any suspicious information.

After futher investigation, Garden City Police on Tuesday arrested a 15-year-old female student from HGMS on an allegation of criminal threat. According to police, the student allegedly made the threat and then posted it as if it was sent to her from an anonymous source, in order to get out of school Tuesday. 

This comes just a few days after police identified a 14-year-old male HGMS student who is believed to have threatened the use of firearms to harm students at the school on Wednesday of last week.It isn't clear whether the two threats are related.
