People Of The Plains: Making A Way

“I am thankful for my struggle because without it I wouldn’t have stumbled upon my strength.” -Alexandra Belle.

Strength often comes from overcoming obstacles.

Kayla Moody is the epitome of strength. She did not come from wealth or privilege, but she still found a way to succeed. Her character, her faith, and her journey is an inspiration.

Kayla started college as a rookie, not just as a freshman, but the first in her family, as well.

She grew up with a single mother and an older sister. Her grandparents were also there to help. There was no shortage of love. However, she still faced an uphill battle that would not be easy. There was no one to borrow experience from and no experience to pull from for inspiration. She had to be her own inspiration, but with a lot of cheering from home.

Kayla found her new home at an on-campus student ministry, The Wesley. Her faith helped her push through on her journey to a college degree. She gained new friends and adventures, new insights and knowledge, and her very own hard-earned accomplishment of which no one in her family before her had done.

Kayla recently graduated from West Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s of Science in General Studies.

She is currently an Intern at The Wesley Foundation and is a mentor to others. She is the Children’s Director at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Amarillo.

She has two nephews and a niece who bring her a lot of joy. She hopes to help inspire them for their futures. She looks forward to the life she has ahead with the confidence of having accomplished something by herself.

She hopes to have a successful career and to have children someday  - and - to bring back a positive generation of mothers. The journey is not over. There is so much yet to come.
