Amarillo League of Women Voters Reminds Us "Elections Are Coming"

Today on High Plains Morning, we had Jami Cowart, the Voter Registration Coordinator at the Amarillo League of Women Voters on the air to discuss the upcoming elections in the Texas panhandle. However, keeping on top of voter registration status is something EVERY HPPR LISTENER should be doing—so check out our conversation on the link below. We talk about the upcoming elections in Texas on May 1st, covering both Potter and Randall counties; registration deadline is April 1st, so be sure you’re up to date! (Note: If you’ve moved, you’ll need to update your address, too.) Plus, we talked about the organization’s helpful online voter information site, vote411.org, where citizens can check out their registration status, find out what’s on the ballot in their locality, and who is running. The LWV’s local voters guide also offers nonpartisan information about local candidates, including their positions on a variety of issues which helps people decide which ones they’d like to support. If you’re in the TX Panhandle, mark your calendar for the upcoming Candidate’s Forums, airing on Panhandle PBS on Sunday, April 11 and Sunday, April 18

Reminder for Texans: Voter Registration deadline is April 1. The League of Women Voters will be setting up a voter registration tables on that date at each election office from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (e.g., Santa Fe Building on Polk, Randall County Annex on Western, & the Randall County Election Office in Canyon). “We want to help register as many voters as we can,” Cowert said. Plus, here's a link to the calendar listing upcoming voter registration events and locations in the Amarillo area.

If you have questions or want to get involved with the LWV’s Amarillo chapter, reach out to Jami at amarillolwv@gmail.com or call 806-337-2148 for assistance.
