Celebrate the agricultural roots and frontier heritage of Colorado’s Eastern Plains by participating in the second annual “Pedal the Plains.”  This year there’s a brand new route for cyclists of all ages and abilities.  Riders will have a chance to taste regional foods, learn about the area from local experts, try their hand at local crafts, enjoy lively entertainment, and experiment, hands-on, with farming techniques.

Participants will experience the hospitality and charm of host communities during the day and in the evening.  This year’s host cities are:

Pedal the Plains will roll through the little towns on the prairie for three days starting Sept. 20.  Online registration has closed, but walk-ins are welcome at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds in Eads on Friday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.  A map of the route can be found here

Gov. John Hickenlooper has called it, "race for the rest of us."  The towns themselves are the real stars — Eads, Lamar and La Junta — with their easygoing charm and real Old West offerings. Don't miss Picketwire Canyon and Bent's Old Fort
