Kobach Defends Charge that He Spoke to White Nationalist Group

Twitter

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach was accused last week of speaking to a group of white nationalists, reports The Topeka Capital-Journal. The accusation came from The Southern Poverty Law Center, after Kobach spoke at an event hosted by The Social Contract Press.

Kobach’s people have called the SPLC’s charges “absurd.” The Social Contract Press added that “Minority Americans . . . not only attend but speak at our events.” The SPLC fired back: “Just because a couple people of color were there, that doesn’t diminish 20 years of racist publications.”

The Social Contract Press was founded by John Tanton, called by some the most powerful anti-immigration force in the US. A 2011 article on Tanton in The New York Times noted his passion for eugenics and his “interest in genetic differences between the races and concerns about the country’s changing ethnic mix.”
