Sen. Ted Cruz may be in trouble in 2018

Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s bid for re-election next year may be in jeopardy, according to new polling numbers.

As the Dallas Morning News reports, if the race were held today, Cruz would face an uphill battle against either of his two potential Democratic rivals for the seat.

When placed in a head-to-head matchup against Beto O’Rourke, the popular West Texas congressman who announced his bid last month, both men were tied at 30 percent. And when respondents were given the choice between Senator Cruz and Rep. Joaquin Castro, the San Antonio Democrat who’s expected to announce his candidacy this month, Castro held a slim lead over the sitting Senator, 35 to 31 percent.

However, Democrats shouldn’t pop the champagne cork just yet. A plurality of respondents said they hadn’t even begun thinking about the race yet.
