Another Controversial Billboard Appears In Amarillo

Jonathan Baker

Another controversial billboard has appeared in Amarillo, this time in support of President Trump’s efforts to build a wall along the border with Mexico.

As KVII reports, the electronic billboard, which reads simply “WeFundTheWall.com” and features a picture of President Trump giving a thumbs up, is located on the north side of I-40 across from Westgate Mall.

The sign aims to promote a GoFundMe site started to raise funds for the President’s wall. The website has currently raised over $18 million for the project, far short of the $18 billion the President has said the wall would cost.

On the billboard’s opposite side is another controversial sign, which reads “Vaccines can cause autism. Choose Intelligent Design.” Both signs were purchased through a company owned by controversial former Amarillo City Council member Randy Burkett.

Amarillo has become a billboard battleground, of sorts, over the past year. Last June, Amarillo made national news for a billboard telling liberals to leave the state. In response, another sign appeared reading: “Texas is for everyone – not for bigotry.”
