High Plains Outdoors: Wild Hog Hunt At Night

Luke Clayton

Last week, Luke "ran out of time" telling about a recent night air rifle hunt he enjoyed on his buddy Jeff Rice's ranch in east Texas. This week, Luke recaps the hunt and goes into a bit more detail describing just how he and his buddies harvested the porkers after dark.

The Texan big bore air rifles by Airforce Airguns were used. Luke's .45 caliber Texan carbine shooting a Hunters Supply 350-grain soft lead bullet, topped with a Sightmark  Photon RT digital scope is Luke's idea of the perfect night hunting set up. A Pulsar Helion thermal monocular helped positively identify the hogs well before they were in close enough to shoot.

Outdoors writer, radio host and book author Luke Clayton has been addicted to everything outdoors related since his childhood when he grew up hunting and fishing in rural northeast Texas. Luke pens a weekly newspaper column that appears in over thirty newspapers.
