Samuel Barber was an American composer of the twentieth century who studied at the Curtis Institute and was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes for his music: one for his opera Vanessa in 1956 and another in 1962 for his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. He was also awarded the prestigious Rome Price to study at the American Academy in Rome in the 1930s.
