Bad Poetry Competition

Bad Poetry Competition

"Give us your tired, your poor,
your bungled verses yearning to breathe free
The wretched refuse of your teeming page..."
The Bad Poetry Contest is back for 2023, presented by Brick and Elm, the area's premier lifestyle magazine. Open to all, this free event celebrates the worst poetry of the region. It's for amateurs and aficionados, students and olds, professors and professionals alike.
• Location: Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex Recital Hall •
Bring your own poem to read, because we will reward the worst. Or, just come "enjoy" the selection of mangled metaphors, inept elegies, vile villanelles, and sucky sonnets.
In short, we want to hear your poetry. We don't care if it's any good. In fact, we'd rather it be real bad. What defines "bad"? It could be the mediocrity of the poetry itself. Or maybe the subject matter. Or your terrible delivery. Trust us: We know bad when we hear it, and we are ready to celebrate it. If your rhymes ain't right and your meter a mess, we want to hear from you.
