The life and experiences of World War II Navajo Code Talker Samuel F. Sandoval will be featured in the Finney County Historical Museum’s first two free lectures of the fall season, set for noon Sept. 14 and 7 p.m. Sept. 20. Admission is free and the presentations will be given by Upchurch Foundation founder Paul Kyle, based on the coder talker documentary, “Heart of a Warrior.” The series is sponsored by the Western Kansas Community Foundation and those attending should use the north entrance of the museum in Garden City, located at 403 S. Fourth Street in Finnup Park. Refreshments will be provided and attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch or dinner, if desired. Programs are also scheduled at noon the first Wednesday and 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of October and November, featuring place names of Finney County and Garden City, and perspectives on controversial 19th Century cavalry officer George Armstrong Custer.
