ag.jpg

While we all work to adjust to the COVID-19 lockdown,  it's worth noting that some organizations are really getting creative. The Amarillo Museum of Art (AMoA) has created a glut of online conent to engage the creative mind of kids and adults alike, with virtual tours, activity sheets, online exhibits, and art contests. We spoke with AMoaA's curator, Alex Gregory, about the many ways communites across the High Plains can engage with the museum even though the doors are closed. Click the link below for the full interview, and scroll down for the many ways you can flex your art skills.

Virtual Tour: Vanessa GermanVanessa German is an American sculptor, painter, writer, activist, performer and poet based in Pittsburgh. As a self-described citizen artist, German explores the power of art and love as a transformative force in the dynamic cultural ecosystem of communities and neighborhoods. Her intricate mixed-media sculptures combine doll parts, antique tins, cowrie shells, household objects, and African beads. With her three-dimensional collages German reclaims objects and words that symbolize the oppression of African Americans for generations, creating serene, if surreal, figures that call to mind religious icons, Congolese minkisi sculpture and folk art traditions. Her work is found in numerous permanent collections.

Virtual Tour: Achievement in ArtThe annual Achievement in Art Exhibition and Gala provides the public a chance to view important works of art while honoring notable collectors on their achievements in art collecting. Tour the galleries of the Amarillo Museum of Art as we share artworks from the collection of Harmon and Harriet Kelley.
