Oklahoma LGBTQ Adoption Law Prompts California Travel Ban

California has banned state-funded travel to the state of Oklahoma, in response to the Sooner State’s recent LGBTQ adoption law.

As the political journal The Hill reports, late last week the California Attorney General Xavier Becerra released a statement reading, in part, “California taxpayers are taking a stand against bigotry and in support of those who would be harmed by this prejudiced policy.”

Last year California passed a law requiring the state to keep a list of all states that pass “laws that authorize or require discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.” With last month’s adoption law, Oklahoma is now on that list. The new law allows adoption agencies to reject same-sex couples on religious grounds.

In response, a spokesman for Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin said, “There appears to be more and more Californians sharing our values as we are seeing more Californians move to Oklahoma.”
