Giving an extra share … making a real difference

There are individuals who give an “extra share” to HPPR – a share that goes above and beyond supporting just their own listening. They’re also supporting HPPR as an educational, cultural and civic service in their community and across the wider High Plains region.

There are currently 70 such individuals who make annual contributions of $1,000 a year or more to HPPR – some as high as $10,000 in some years. We know that not everyone is in a financial position to provide such support or to provide it every year and we value every membership at every level.  But if you are in a position this year to contribute above and beyond the usual share, it will make such a difference.

This is especially true now as HPPR works to significantly raise the level of private support for public radio to cover the gap left by deep cuts in State of Kansas funding and reductions in Corporation for Public Broadcasting grants. HPPR is hoping to add 10 such supporters by the end of 2020 as part of its December campaign to raise $110,000.  If you are able to make such a major contribution, we hope you will consider becoming one HPPR’s “extra share” supporters who p

You might think of making a major contribution for HPPR in terms of an amount per month, even if you make it all at once to take full advantage of the tax deduction this year.  HPPR is a service available to you and your community every day, every day of the month, month of the year.  And every month your major gift can make a difference in covering the cost of that service.

  • $200 a month for a $2,400 contribution
  • $150 a month for an $1,800 contribution
  • $125 a month for an $1,500 contribution
  • $100 a month for a $1,200 contribution
  • $83.33 a month for a $1,000 contribution

There are also various ways you can consider making such a contribution besides cash:

  • Donation of appreciated stock (gaining both a charitable deduction and avoidance of capital gains taxes)
  • Donation of a portion of and IRA account (if over 70 ½ years old)
  • Donation through a Family Foundation or Trust or a Family Fund at a community foundation
  • Donation of a vehicle of any kind

Please give this some thought over the next few days. You can always make your contribution conveniently, safely and securely at hppr.org or respond to a letter you may have received and mail in a contribution.  You can also call the HPPR studios to make a contribution or discuss any questions or contact William Murphy, Executive Director, directly at wmurphy@hppr.org.   Hearing from you will add a great boost to our efforts as we work to raise $110,000 by Decmeber 31, 2020 and begin 2021 with a balanced budget.
