KZNA-FM 90.5 serving northwest Kansas will be off the air starting the afternoon of Monday, October 20 through Friday as we replace its aging and unreliable transmitter. While we're off-air, you can keep listening to our digital stream directly above this alert or on the HPPR mobile app. This planned project is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining free and convenient access to public radio service via FM radio to everyone in the listening area. My background in wildlife biology and the history of science might make me an unlikely book leader for a graphic novel exploring growing up in Iran. I’m Kim Perez and currently, I serve on the faculty of the history department at Fort Hays State University.

Just like my educational background, my reading interests are eclectic. As a child, my favorite books to read were volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica. I’d select a different topic every time I picked one up off the shelf. Currently, my research interests are on the intersections between science, nature writing, and conservation. But I’m also deeply interested in the history of childhood (as they relate to the aforementioned topics and in general) and how children are taught about the world in which they live. It’s why I’m very intrigued with Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis.
