An appeals court ruled last month Texas can enforce Senate Bill 12, which restricts "sexually oriented" performances in public. Critics say the law is vague and incorrectly portrays all drag performances as sexual.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday reaffirmed a November ruling removing a block on Senate Bill 12 and denied a request by plaintiffs for a rehearing.

A federal appeals court has ruled that Texas can enforce Senate Bill 12, which restricts "sexually oriented performances" in front of kids. The judges said drag shows aren't necessarily sexual, and the plaintiffs, including a drag performer and two entertainment companies, may not be harmed by the law.

An Oklahoma lawmaker is asking for a legal opinion about whether drag shows are banned by an obscenity law recently adopted by the legislature.

The ruling comes just weeks after a federal lawsuit was filed in an effort to block the school’s ban on drag shows.
