Southwest Chief service safe in Colorado and Kansas

santafenewmexican.com

Amtrak says it will continue Southwest Chief service through parts of Kansas and Colorado for two more decades according to a recent article from the Santa Fe New Mexican.

The the two states received federal TIGER grants for the train.  However, Amtrak says the Trinidad, Colorado/Raton, New Mexico portion of the track remains in question.  Delays of funding from the State of New Mexico could be a contributing factor.

According to the map, if the train is rerouted to bypass Raton, Las Vegas, and Lamy, it appears possible to board the Southwest Chief westbound in Garden City and end up in Amarillo via Las Animas.
