The newest Texas Panhandle wind farm just began operation, and two more projects have just signed interconnection agreements.  The total cost of the pair will be about $900 million according to a recent article from the Amarillo Globe-News.

The Cross Texas Transmission project will consist of 108 Siemens turbines with a 203 megawatt capacity for each turbine. That’s enough electricity to supply 350 average Texas homes. It will be located in Carson County near two other new Pattern wind farms are located. Pattern won’t discuss costs, but Ken Starcher at the Alternative Energy Institute at West Texas A&M University estimates to total to be about $496 million.

The Salt Fork Wind Ranch, situated in the northwest corner of Donley County and into Gray County will have 100 Vestas turbines with a 2 megawatt capacity. Cost is approximated at $400 million.

Electricity from both winds farms will be transmitted downstate through the Electric Reliability county of Texas grid.
