Two bills were recently passed by the Kansas Senate.

Senate bill 394 known as the “foster parent’ bill of rights easily passed with a vote of 34-3.

The bill gives foster parents a greater say in child welfare cases involving children in their care.  It requires the state to inform foster parent 30 days in advance of any plans to change a child’s placement.  It also requires foster parents to be informed before court hearings regarding children in their care.

House Bill 2210 was approved by the Senate with a vote of 27-12.  The bill prevents voters with a party affiliation from changing after the June 1 filing deadline until after primary results are certified in August.  It also allows unaffiliated voters to change registration.

The current law permits voters to change parties up to two weeks before the primary election reported The Wichita Eagle.  Voters with party affiliation select one candidate from the party in each race to advance to the general election.
