The biggest fight to pass open-carry legislation in Texas could be advocates of the Second Amendment. The Texas Tribune reports conflict is emerging over how big changes to the current state law should be.
Gun rights supporters say the divide could sink efforts to lift handgun restrictions in the next legislative session.
Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson helped get the current law passed in 1995 when he was a state senator. He says the challenge supporters face is to drop their disagreements and recognize the legislative process is designed to kill legislation.
Similar measures have failed in the last two legislative sessions.
The next session begins in January.
