Amarillo has a big election coming up on May 6th, reports MyHighPlains.com, and the city will be choosing a new mayor and selecting a city council.
For mayor, three candidates have emerged: Ginger Nelson is an Amarillo attorney who has been on the board of the Amarillo Economic Development Council for the past few years. James Lowder is a cybersecurity auditor and the chairman of the GOP in Potter County. And Renea Dauntes is a photo archivist who has been a longtime supporter of Amarillo’s cultural scene.
Meanwhile, beleaguered Place Three City Councilman Randy Burkett will not run for election. Eddy Sauer and Thomas Warren II are vying for the open seat. In Place One, Elisha Demerson is facing a challenger in Certified Financial Planner Elaine Hays. And realtor Howard Smith is challenging incumbent Mark Nair for Place Four. Frieda Powell and James Schenck are competing for the Place Two seat.
