Texas Republicans Eating Crow After Voting Against 2012 Hurricane Sandy Aid Package

Back in 2012, when Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast, many Republicans leaders in Texas stood in staunch opposition to an aid package to help New York and New Jersey recover from the devastation.

Now, as POLITICO reports, those chickens are coming home to roost. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Senator Ted Cruz and other Texas lawmakers are asking for aid from the Federal government.

But leaders in New York and New Jersey have been quick to point out that Ted Cruz once referred to a post-hurricane Sandy aid package as a “Christmas tree,” before voting against it. On Monday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called Texas congressional members “hypocrites.”

Texas GOP lawmakers have even received rebukes from their Republican counterparts up north. Republican representatives Peter King and Frank LoBiondo both called out their Texas colleagues on Twitter.
