Bill Cross, a 5' 6" stick of dynamite, was one of the all-time-greatest football players to come out of the Texas Panhandle said a piece in High Plains Yesterdays.
Cross, a 1947 Canadian graduate, went to college at WT, where he rushed for 2,474 yards- a mark that would stand two decades. He was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals in 1951, where he played for three years.

Cross passed away July 5, 2013, in Canadian. A bronze statue stands in honor of the, "Canadian Comet," outside Wildcat football stadium.
