This year the outdoor musical TEXAS, performed each summer in the Palo Duro Canyon near Canyon, Texas, celebrated its 50th anniversary. The musical held a reunion last week, which drew almost 500 alumni from the musical’s long and storied history.

The Canyon News interviewed the show’s director, Dave Yirak, about the reunion. Yirak first started at TEXAS in 1979, playing the role of Uncle Henry in the production. Yirak said he had a great time hanging out and reminiscing with his old friends from his first seasons in the late seventies and early eighties. He also praised the show’s founders, saying “They are the ones that kept the show there in the Palo Duro Canyon through the hard times, tough times and dysfunctional times.”

The cast of TEXAS will perform their last show of the season on August 15th
