New NPR Music Programming on HPPR: Alt.Latino & All Songs Considered on Saturday

In the wake of public radio’s loss of Live from Here with Chris Thile, which recently ceased production and is no longer available to air on our station, High Plains Public Radio is pleased to welcome two of the most notoriously excellent music shows available on public radio. Starting this Saturday, September 5th, you can enjoy NPR’s Alt.Latino and All Songs Considered back-to-back from 5 to 6pm CT.

MORE ABOUT ALT.LATINO: Every week, Alt.Latino introduces listeners to new alternative Latin music, including diverse genres such as cumbia, Mexican garage rock, Panamanian rap, heavy metal mariachi and many more boundary-blurring sounds from around the world. In addition to music, Alt.Latino features interviews and insightful conversation about Latin events and culture. Host Felix Contreras discusses music and culture through the lens of Felix’s long career covering Latin music and culture for NPR, NBC and Univision. Alt.Latino listeners actively contribute to these conversations and share their thoughts on music, politics, literature and cultural identity via Facebook and Twitter. Felix is also frequently heard on NPR’s news programs where he speaks to millions of listeners about the latest in Latin alternative music and the experiences of Latinos in the United States and abroad vis-à-vis music. Alt.Latino started production in June 2010 and continues to gain national attention and recognition. It has become a go-to destination for fans of Latin culture and alternative music, serving as a guide and taste-maker to millions of listeners. It continues to reach new and diverse audiences and expose them to a far-reaching assortment of stories, sounds, and visions. You can connect with the show on their Facebook page.

MORE ABOUT ALL SONGS CONSIDERED: All Songs Considered is NPR's guide to discovering new music below the radar. Every week, host Bob Boilen and producer Robin Hilton go through hundreds of new CDs to find sneak previews of music that's worth getting excited about, whether it's the latest Swedish pop band, a hip-hop artist going ambient, or a singer-songwriter with a twisted new take on love. Sometimes, artists or critics stop by All Songs Considered with their top picks. It’s the perfect show for listeners who want to stay current, but don’t have the time. All Songs Considered started as an online show in 2000 after receiving countless letters from listeners who wanted to know more about the music played between stories on NPR's evening news program, All Things Considered. It has become a destination for artists such as Lily Allen or Bright Eyes to spin their favorite tunes, or musicians such as Wilco, Bjork Sigur Ros or Ben Gibbard webcast their live concerts. It is a show that one week can feature the music of Portugal and the next feature the White Stripes or Andrew Bird. This show has a dedicated and growing online audience, and the All Songs podcast is consistently ranked the #1 music podcast in iTunes. You can connect with the show on their Facebook page.

Jenny Inzerillo joined HPPR in 2015 as the host of High Plains Morning, our live music program that airs weekdays at 9 am to noon CST. Broadcasting from KJJP in beautiful downtown Amarillo, she helps listeners wake up with inspired music from our region and beyond. Tune in for new voices in folk/Americana, deep cuts from your favorite artists, soulful tracks from singer/songwriters across the world, and toe-tapping classics dating as far back as the 1920s. Plus, discover underground greats that just might be your new favorite band.
