IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, here are the two links for the two HPPR Showcases we presented for Folk Alliance International's "Folk Unlocked!" Thanks to all the artists who contributed, and thanks to the Texas Music Office for sponsoring the "Texas Room."

ORIGINAL POST: Let’s face it: we all miss live folk shows. Thankfully, High Plains Public Radio has a special treat for you music fans—and it’ll feel almost as good as the real thing.

For the first time ever, HPPR will not only be attending Folk Alliance International’s annual folk music conference, but we’ll be also hosting two online folk artist showcases! Don’t miss “Folk Unlocked,” the virtual festival taking place online from February 22 through 26, 2021. Plus, this year, attendance is 100% donation-based, so it’s open to everyone; just register here as an attendee, and you have full access to hundreds of curated folk performances, panels, keynotes, discussions, and inspirational presentations from the international folk music community.

Our Showcases: Featuring more than 30 singers, songwriters, folk groups, and composers that you know and love from High Plains Morning, Songbirds, What the Folk?, and Open Range, these showcase lineups are certain to knock your socks off. The first showcase is called “HPPR SHOWCASE,” and it includes artists from Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and a few logging in from Europe.  The second showcase, which is sponsored by the Texas Music Office, is our “TEXAS ROOM.” You’ll find some Panhandle troubadours in there, as well as a heap of performers from Austin, “The Live Music Capitol of the World.”

***See the slideshow feature on this page to view the full lineup for each showcase!***

Spread the word, mark your calendars, and get ready for some live folk, curated just for YOU! If you have any questions, please contact Jenny Inzerillo at jinzerillo@hppr.org or call 806.367.9088.

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL: Folk Unlocked: Connection, Discovery, Inspiration, is a five-day event for the entire international folk community to come together for panels, workshops, showcases, affinity and peer group meetings, exhibit spaces, networking, and mentorship. In place of an in-person conference this year, this is a year for innovation and creativity; our goal is to create a space for community building and career development for everyone from the comfort and safety of their own home. We are unlocking the doors and windows of the house of folk to be as broad and inclusive as possible, inviting those who have been loyally attending Folk Alliance International conferences for years while aiming to reach folk musicians and professionals who have never benefited from or attended FAI before.

We hope to push the boundaries of what our community can achieve with technology, and though this means not every aspect of our typical annual conference will be able to exist in this format, we’re excited for this opportunity to initiate a new way of connection.

Programming will be interactive, whether live-streamed or pre-recorded, and recordings will be available for later viewing, allowing folks from around the globe to tune in when they can.  More programming details will be coming soon! To make sure you receive any updates about Folk Unlocked, please sign up for our conference email list. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at mailto:fai@folk.org or 816-221-3655.

Registration: In order for Folk Unlocked to be an event accessible to all, we’ve built a pay-what-you’re-able pricing structure. All registration prices provide the same level of access. Registration is valued at $150, and we created three other registration tiers: $75, $25, and $0.

Please register at the level that you are able to contribute. If you can register at the full price, your registration will help offset the cost to help folks attend who would not have been able to. This has been a difficult year for everyone in our community, and we want to make sure that all who want to attend can attend.

Jenny Inzerillo joined HPPR in 2015 as the host of High Plains Morning, our live music program that airs weekdays at 9 am to noon CST. Broadcasting from KJJP in beautiful downtown Amarillo, she helps listeners wake up with inspired music from our region and beyond. Tune in for new voices in folk/Americana, deep cuts from your favorite artists, soulful tracks from singer/songwriters across the world, and toe-tapping classics dating as far back as the 1920s. Plus, discover underground greats that just might be your new favorite band.
