The 3rd edition of the Amarillo International Film Festival returns October 8 to 10. Join us for what promises to be another fantastic weekend at Arts in the Sunset!

Animated Short: (from all short submissions) $500

Greater Amarillo Filmmaker Award: $1,000
This will be awarded to the best film in which the filmmaker resides in the Greater Amarillo area (Texas Panhandle) or at least 50% of the film was shot in the Greater Amarillo area.

Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health Award - TBD

Legacy Award - Awarded at the discretion of the Festival Director and committee.
Visit Amarillo Route 66/ Road Trippin' Award -$500

New in 2026 for Route 66 Centennial Anniversary, this will be awarded to the film that best embodies the Route 66/ Road Trip vibe and/or is filmed on Route 66.

Join us at Chapterhouse Bookstore for a Banned Books Week Read-In and Letter Writing event! Attendees will get to choose from 2 free audiobooks while supplies last: "Banned Together" by Ashley Hope Pérez or "How To Defend Books and Why" by Danny Caine.

READ-IN:
Bring your favorite banned book or one from your TBR, or choose one from our display! Sit and read for as long as you like. We will also have banned book trivia scattered around the room to test your banned book knowledge! Get at least 5 trivia questions right or answer our featured question correctly to get your choice of a free ARC (advanced reading copy) or a coupon to Chapterhouse Bookstore.

LETTER WRITING:
Write to your reps about the three federal book banning bills making their way through legislation, or the numerous state bills that have been passed or proposed. Let your representatives know that the Freedom to Read is a priority and an issue that could affect their (re)election! Letter writing materials and representative info will be provided.

Join us in an informal poetry circle to read, share, or just listen to some local poets.

BYO book (any format) to our Silent Book Club for one or two reading sessions the second Wednesday of every month! They start at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.

It's a great way to chat about what you're currently reading, learn what others are reading, and discover new books and friends who read!

We encourage participants to choose a colored tag to indicate how much (or little) they'd prefer to talk with others:

Green = talk to me anytime
Yellow = talk to me during breaks
Red = don't talk to me, I'm here to read!

We'll read silently together for 45 minutes and then break for discussion and snacks for 15 minutes. There will be 2 rounds of reading starting at 4:30 and 5:30. Come for one or stay for both!

Light snacks and beverages available for purchase, and our free tea and water station is always available.

Starting at noon on Thursday, October 15, come to the Prairie Museum of Art & History to hear Tonia Compton lead the presentation, "Semi-Quin Declaration Conversations," about the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

A hot lunch made by the Prairie Museum's employees and volunteers will be served for those who RSVP in advance through the DonorBox link provided.
