KJJP-FM 105.7 is currently operating at 15% of power, limiting its signal strength and range in the Amarillo-Canyon area. This due to complicated problems with its very old transmitter. Local engineers are continuing to work on the transmitter and are consulting with the manufacturer to diagnose and fix the problems. We apologize for this disruption and service as we work as quickly as possible to restore KJPFM to full power. In the mean time you can always stream either the HPPR Mix service or HPPR Connect service using the player above or the HPPR app.

High Plains Outdoors: Tasty Recipe For Canned Beans And Sausages

Luke Clayton
Camp beans

Join Luke at the campfire in front of his cabin this week and learn one of his simple, but very tasty camp recipes.

We don't always have a lot of time for cooking on fishing or hunting camps, but this tasty recipe takes canned beans and sausages to the next level!

Begin by slicing a few strips of bacon and frying them in a cast iron skillet over the campfire coals. Throw in a handful of chopped onion and dice up several fresh garlic pods and a jalapeno or two. Toss in a handful of dark brown sugar.  Now, open a small (or large) can of pork and beans, depending upon the amount of people eating, spoon them into the skillet and pour in a little water. Place a few sausages, Bratwurst or Kielbasa on the grill and allow the beans to simmer until the onion is thoroughly cooked.

The smoke from the campfire adds to the flavor of the seasoned beans. When the sausages are done, you have two options, cut them into small pieces and add to the beans or serve them on the side. The entire meal can be prepared on the campfire or camp stove in about 30 minutes.

Outdoors writer, radio host and book author Luke Clayton has been addicted to everything outdoors related since his childhood when he grew up hunting and fishing in rural northeast Texas. Luke pens a weekly newspaper column that appears in over thirty newspapers.
