KJJP-FM 105.7 is currently operating at 15% of power, limiting its signal strength and range in the Amarillo-Canyon area. This due to complicated problems with its very old transmitter. Local engineers are continuing to work on the transmitter and are consulting with the manufacturer to diagnose and fix the problems. We apologize for this disruption and service as we work as quickly as possible to restore KJPFM to full power. In the mean time you can always stream either the HPPR Mix service or HPPR Connect service using the player above or the HPPR app.

High Plains Outdoors: Hunting Wild Hogs With The Texan

Just a few days ago, Texas adopted a regulation that allows airguns for hunting big game this coming fall/winter. For the past seven years, Luke has been shooting and hunting hogs/exotics with air rifles.

When Airforce Airguns came out with the first production big bore airgun a few years ago, The Texan, the hard shooting rifle became an instant success and many newcomers to shooting airguns were introduced to the power that air can develop. The 45-caliber Texas shooting a 350-grain Hunter's Supply bullet develops 500 foot pounds of energy.

Luke enjoyed an exciting hog hunt this past week at his friend Jeff Rice's Buck and Bass Ranch in east Texas. Ton Jones, one of the hosts of TV's "Auction Hunters" reality show and Cameron Brinkerhoff, with AIrforce Airguns, joined Luke and Jeff on this hog hunt to celebrate the adoption of the new regulations allowing air rifles to be used for hunting in Texas.

Three hogs were harvested with the Texans, topped with Photon RT digital night vision scopes that can actually be used during the day or in pitch dark. Three hogs were harvested and a big wild pork BBQ is in the plans for the near future.

Outdoors writer, radio host and book author Luke Clayton has been addicted to everything outdoors related since his childhood when he grew up hunting and fishing in rural northeast Texas. Luke pens a weekly newspaper column that appears in over thirty newspapers.
