This seminar is for individuals new to Medicare or turning the age of 65.
Registration is required.

Award-winning author Dennis Garcia will return to Kansas on September 26 for the Kansas Book Festival at Washburn University, where he will share the family history and research behind Las Madres: Latinas in the Heartland Who Led Their Family to Success. Garcia will participate in the 2 p.m. Family Research and Remembrance panel and will also meet readers and sign copies of the book throughout the festival.

"Needles & Hooks" — Fiber Arts Club. Open to all who use a needle or hook to create! We invite embroiders, needle felters, quilters, crocheters, knitters, needlepoint artists, etc. Starting February 2026, this club will meet on the first Thursday of each month from 6–8PM at the Prairie Museum Library.

Join us for an unforgettable evening featuring Chef Steven Raichlen, known for PBS favorites Steven Raichlen's Planet Barbecue, Steven Raichlen's Project Fire, and past series Primal Grill and Barbecue University.

Steven will be in Amarillo for a special night celebrating the release of his new cookbook, arriving in October 2026. Local pitmaster Tyler Frazer, owner and operator of Tyler's Barbeque, will prepare a dinner inspired by Steven's career in the industry.

Leave the kids at home and "Live in the Moment" at this event, which aims to educate Hispanic women in our community about the significance of breast cancer awareness, self-examinations and annual mammograms.

Dia de la Mujer, or Women's Day Out, features live music, entertainment and most importantly, lectures from two renowned Hispanic motivational speakers from the medical world.

"Between the Sheets" — Genealogy Club. Open to all who want to learn about family research; genealogy. There will be a formal program each month based on the interests of participants. Starting February 2026, this club will meet on the first Saturday of each month from 2–4PM at the Prairie Museum Library.

The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, in conjunction with the Texas Attorney General’s Office, invites the public to a free Open Government
Seminar from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Amarillo Area Foundation, 919 S. Polk.

The seminar covers state open meetings and
public records laws and is designed for journalists, attorneys,
government employees and engaged citizens. State Bar Continuing Legal Education credit is available for attorneys.
