The Roth family, founders of Beef Products Incorporated, announced this week that they have established a $10 million fund to benefit former employees.

The Amarillo Globe-News reports that the money will go toward helping communities affected by plant closures. In 2012, BPI laid off approximately 750 employees and closed three production facilities, including plants in Amarillo and Garden City.

In a news release, BPI founder Eldon Roth wrote, “While it took [BPI] longer to get here than we had hoped, we are pleased to finally be able to re-connect with those former employees and see what we can do to help them continue to recover.”

The company will now begin reviewing applications from former employees who wish to access their portion of the 10 million. BPI is headquartered in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.
