KJJP-FM 105.7 is currently operating at 15% of power, limiting its signal strength and range in the Amarillo-Canyon area. This due to complicated problems with its very old transmitter. Local engineers are continuing to work on the transmitter and are consulting with the manufacturer to diagnose and fix the problems. We apologize for this disruption and service as we work as quickly as possible to restore KJPFM to full power. In the mean time you can always stream either the HPPR Mix service or HPPR Connect service using the player above or the HPPR app.

High Plains Outdoors: Hunting The Eastern Wild Turkey

Luke Clayton

This week, Luke visits with us about a recent hog hunt he enjoyed close to home during what could be our last blast of Arctic air until next fall. Luke referred to this as his "last cold weather hog hunt of the season."

After 38 years of hunting wild turkeys, Luke has experienced turkeys doing some downright comical things. He gives us the "short version" of one of these experiences in today's show.

Luke's making plans to hunt the Eastern species of turkey with his friends on 44,000 acres of Choctaw tribal lands in southeastern Oklahoma at Choctaw Hunting Lodge.

The land is also well-managed for trophy whitetail deer and at the present, there are still a few openings for deer hunts this fall.  More on this hunt in a few weeks.

Outdoors writer, radio host and book author Luke Clayton has been addicted to everything outdoors related since his childhood when he grew up hunting and fishing in rural northeast Texas. Luke pens a weekly newspaper column that appears in over thirty newspapers.
