Amarillo Public Library’s SocialRx program is a great opportunity for area residents looking to expand their horizons and their circle of friends.
The program is designed to introduce people to engaging opportunities available in our community. Each month, community organizations offer information about classes, volunteer opportunities, and clubs so interested individuals can explore the options.
At the September 11th, 2024 meeting:
--The Amarillo Chapter of the League of Women Voters will provide information on LWV membership, fellowship, and volunteer opportunities.--ACTS Community will give us the scoop on the Senior Center and volunteer options.--Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare will explain about ways to get involved in helping pets reunite with their people or find forever homes.
Each Social Rx meeting takes place on the second Wednesday of the month at 1 PM at the Downtown Library – located at 413 SE 4th. Come meet new people and learn new things! For more information, contact Program Specialist Cynthia Hunt at 806-378-6019.

Violet Cornett currently serves as the full-time Bookkeeper and ESL Instructor at Pioneer Memorial Library, where she began working in 2020. She also proudly wears several other hats, including being the owner of Brewing Up Words bookstore and a new Adjunct Spanish Instructor for the Agriculture Department at Colby Community College.
A proud member of REFORMA an association that promotes library and information services to Latinos and Spanish speakers, she now serves on its board as Treasurer. She is passionate about building puentes—bridges—through language, culture, and community engagement.
Teaching English to adult learners is one of her greatest joys, as it allows her to share her culture and personal stories while helping others find their voice in a new language. She has authored three children’s Spanglish books and actively works to strengthen connections within the Latino community.
She is delighted to present “Cultivating Stories: How Family Recipes Nourish Our Roots and Our Words” at the Prairie Museum of Art & History. She hopes to continue building bridges, one page at a time, connecting libraries, communities, and cultures.
Join us at March's Food For Thought for Violet's presentation!

Sage & Aera is an indie folk duo based in Waldron, Kansas, combining the songs and instrumental prowess of Sage Cook (Elephant Revival) with the uniquely captivating voice and upright bass of Aera Fox. As a founding member of and cornerstone and principal songwriter, banjo player and guitarist in the Colorado transcendental folk group, Elephant Revival, Sage Cook penned some fan favorites like “Go On,” “Cosmic Pulse,” and “Down to the Sea.” Embarking on a subsistence farming adventure in 2013, Sage and Aera moved to Kansas in hopes that deepening their connection to the land would also lead to greater self-realization. During this period of self-reflection and isolation, they co-founded indie atmospheric folk-pop band WE DREAM DAWN with local drummer Weston Hill. In 2023, rejuvenated and inspired by their work with the land, Sage & Aera chose to strip away all the superfluous layers and lay their hearts bare as a purely acoustic duo. Emerging from their self-imposed isolation is purposeful, pure creativity, organically rooted and cosmically inspired folk music for the modern era.
